Montclair Film Festival to host Farhadi’s ‘A Hero’

Iranian film ‘A Hero’ is slated to take part in the 10th Montclair Film Festival (MFF) in New Jersey, the US.

Directed by two-time Oscar winner Asghar Farhadi, ‘A Hero’ will go on screen at the Fiction Feature Competition Section of the US festival on October 26 and 27. 

‘A Hero’ is about Rahim, a divorced man who has been imprisoned due to an unpaid debt. During a two-day leave, Rahim tries to prove that he is a good person. But things do not go as planned.

“‘A Hero’ is an intricate tale of human morality, exploring the fragility of justice and how even the sincerest of intentions can somehow lead to tragedy,” writes the New Jersey festival on Farhadi’s film.

In its first international debut, the 127-minute ‘A Hero’ won the Cannes Film Festival’s Grand Prix award, jointly with ‘Compartment No. 6’ by Juho Kuosmanen.

Farhadi’s latest film has also recently been invited to the Toronto Film Festival, the Sarajevo Film Festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Melbourne Film Festival in Australia, the New Horizons Film Festival in Poland, and the 39th Miami Film Festival in Florida, and the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado, the US.

On October 21, 2021, ‘A Hero’ will also appear at the Film Festival Cologne in Germany.

Farhadi has received two Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film for his films ‘A Separation’ (2011) and ‘The Salesman’ (2016), making him one of the few directors worldwide who have won the category twice. He also received the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Screenplay for his film ‘The Salesman’.

The Montclair Film Festival showcases new works from American and international filmmakers, and has year-round events. The festival features a program of films in the Fiction, Non-Fiction, World Cinema, Short and Student Filmmaking categories.  

The upcoming edition of the festival is to be held on October 21-30, 2021.
